John Macadam & Son

Brief
Support the modernisation of the Macadams brand while maintaining its recognisable identity, and deliver monthly internal and external communications.
Solution
I researched branding and marketing approaches used by other automotive businesses to understand what makes their identities strong and effective. I then applied these insights to the Macadams brand, updating the visual style to create a more modern and distinctive presence while retaining key recognisable elements.
Outcome
Delivered a complete suite of brand assets including updated branding, stationery, social media graphics, flyers, e-newsletters, pull-up banners, and signage to support both internal and external communications.
Overview (If I were to redo this project)
If I were to revisit this project, I would explore redesigning the logo outside of the oval shape to allow more flexibility when applied to vehicle graphics. I would also refresh the website to give it a more modern look and consider developing an app to enable customers to easily book appointments for their vehicles.
Logo Development
Chosen logo
For this client, the brief was to modernise their existing logo while retaining the brand’s recognisable elements. I kept the original colour palette but updated the shape and typography to create a cleaner, more professional look. If I were to redesign the logo again, I would avoid using the oval shape, as it restricts placement and flexibility—especially when applying the logo to vehicle graphics or other branded materials.
50 Years Logo
Banners
Designed pull-up banners for the client to use at events and within their office as part of their marketing materials. The branding was consistently applied across both web and print media, with the signature red colour carried through the entire visual identity. Despite containing a significant amount of text, the banner was designed to feel modern yet traditional through careful use of typography and layout, ensuring it remained clear, professional, and visually engaging.
Business Cards
I carried the track mark motif across the printed media to create consistency and strengthen the overall brand identity.
